I started to feel relaxed when I pulled out of the parking lot from our event for work yesterday afternoon. I could finally "turn off" that part of me for at least a day. From the event, I drove to my best friends house to take her daughter's 1st Year pictures. As soon as I walked into Julie & Ryan's house and saw Leah sitting in the bath tub with a giant smile on her face, all the stress went away. Her sweet little face was all I needed to see. After Leah got out of her bath, I got her dressed into her outfit for her pictures and then along with her Mommy and Daddy and dog, we all piled into their car and drove to the park near their house to do her photos.
Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL fall evening - a perfect night for not only a photo shoot, but a perfect night to sit outdoors at one of my favorite restaurants in town.
After we finished the photos, we dropped the dog off at their house and then drove to one of my favorite places to eat in town. (It's where I first got hooked on the Peanut Butter Bacon Cheeseburger!) We sat outside and ate and talked and laughed. It was such a great night. (Mike had school or else he would have been there with us!)
Knowing I was taking today off of work, I didn't set my alarm clock last night before going to bed. I figured I'd take full advantage of not having to work and sleep in. Well, of course, it's the morning that someone calls my cell at 7:30am!!!! Once I realized what time it was and Mike was still in bed, I panicked thinking he overslept for work! I woke him up and said "MIKE! It's 7:30! You overslept!" His response? "No I didn't" I have the BEST husband. He knew how crummy of a day I had yesterday so he took today off of work to surprise me and spend it with me!!!!!!!
WOW! A day where it's just Mike and I and no schedules, no running around from this to that, no work email going nuts on my phone, NOTHING. It was just MIKE AND I!. WOW!
We had such a good day together. There were a lot of little things from today that meant so much to me:
- Before I started working at the station, Mike and I used to drive together to work everyday. We always listened to Mike & Mike (ESPN) together in the car. (You don't realize you miss stuff like that until it's been long gone and you hear it again.) After we got up this morning, Mike turned on Mike & Mike on the TV (they are on both the radio and TV) and to hear their voices again, and be spending the morning with MY Mike, it was like old times!
- Mike made us breakfast! He made banana pancakes and they were delicious!
- We played the wii together - something we haven't done in a really long time. Of course Mike beat me in EVERY game we played, but it was still fun.
- I got my haircut - something I've been wanting to do for a few months.
- Mike and I ran around town together, just going wherever we wanted. We even got our grocery shopping done TOGETHER!
- Now Mike is making dinner for us: Steak, home made mashed potatoes, veggies, and wine.
Last night was a reminder for me on why Julie and her husband Ryan are so dear to me and on why having such good friends are important.
Today was a reminder for me that no matter what, I have to remember to take care of me. If I don't, I'm no use to anyone - at work or at home. I was also reminded on why I married Mike. He is so good to me. I love him more than words could ever say.
