Here's a question for you: What does one out of every three people do on January 1?
Did I hear you say create New Years Resolutions? Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!
Next question: How many people actually STICK to their New Years Resolutions?
(BE HONEST! It's February 8... are you still sticking to YOURS?)
75% of people stick to their goals for a week, while only 46% are still on track six months later.
I can't tell you how many times I've made the same resolutions: I'm going to go to the gym every day and get back into shape. (I think I've gone to the gym maybe 10 times since January 1st.) I'm going to eat healthier. (So much for the McDonalds I chowed down today.) I'm going to be wiser with my money. (The lady at Starbucks knows me by name.) You get the point.
This past month at work, we teamed up with "My One Word" and challenged our listeners to come up with one word that they could work towards instead of a lengthy list that normally doesn't get completed. (See previous paragraph!)
When I was in San Francisco last month for work, one of my friends asked me if I had come up with my one word yet. I hadn't so I asked her what her's was. She picked ABIDE. Another friend picked CLEAR. So I decided I needed to pick one too (silly peer pressure) but not one specific word was coming to mind. I could think of a lot of different phrases, but not one word. So I prayed.
A few days later, the word FOLLOW kept coming to mind. My initial thought? I'm not a follower, I'm a leader! GODSMACK! (That's what I like to say when God smacks me in the head.) I've been too busy paving my own path and going after what I want instead of following God and doing what HE wants me to do. I need to let God be my leader, and I need to follow him.
So this year, I'm putting my personal agenda and goals aside and really working on following God. Its not too late to pick your one word. Once you do, let me know what you pick!
