Movie: "Homeless for the Holidays"

I'm always on the lookout for new movies to use as discussion starters for the middle school youth group I lead at church.  A few weeks ago, I came across the movie "Homeless for the Holidays"
Homeless for the Holidays is one of those movies where, if you can get past the mediocre acting (think "FireProof") the message that is behind the movie is 100% right on.
"When an uncaring executive falls from the corporate ladder, he learns how difficult it can be to find work and compassion in today's economy.  He eventually accepts a humiliating job, but with bills rapidly piling up, and not enough money to go around, he quickly discovers that, unless something changes soon, he'll lose everything by Christmas.  Will family and faith be enough to bring joy when you're Homeless for the Holidays?"

One of the tag lines for the movie is "Do you realize what you really have?"  I'll be honest:  I'm guilty of driving through the nice neighborhoods looking at the big houses and their nice cars, walking through Pottery Barn and saying "I want this... I want that..." drooling when I look at outfits at Anthropologie.  I used to think that Mike and I were just getting by.  But after watching Homeless for the Holidays as well as our experience yesterday morning while delivering the bags to the homeless in downtown, I do realize how much we really do have.

I have God.
I have my husband.
I have our family and amazing friends.
I have a house and a car and food on my table.
I have a job that I absolutely love.

I'll be sharing the movie with my middle schoolers at church.  It does an excellent job of illustrating how life, what they thought was great, can quickly crumble and how quickly one realizes what is really important to them.

To my Fort Wayne Family & Friends:  The Cast & crew from Homeless for the Holidays will be signing DVD's at the Fort Wayne Family Christian Store on Coldwater Rd this Saturday (11/27) from 1-3pm.
